Online Advertising Sales through Network ads - tips and advice

To get advertising from ad networks on your website, there are some basic things to understand.

There are three types of online ad networks.

The first is a Representative (or Rep) Network. This ad network represent the publications in its portfolio with full transparency; that is, the advertiser always and absolutely knows where their ads will be run. A Rep usually promotes high quality traffic at the going market prices (that is, these are not discount advertisers).

Brand marketers use these a lot. Revenue sharing is used to compensate publishers (website owners). Typically, this type of ad network only accepts websites that can prove they receive a certain minimum amount of traffic per month, although they vary greatly in their range of what that must be anywhere from 5000 to 500,000 monthly visitors may be the stipulation, and some make distinctions between page impressions (click-throughs), total visitors, and unique visitors (total number of different visitors, excluding all repeat visits from a certain visitor).

Next is the Blind Network. This is a kind of discount ad network that offers lower advertising costs to direct marketers in return for their relinquishing control over where their ads will be run. The discount pricing is made possible via buying bulk. Typically, what a blind network buys is remnant inventory mixed with campaign optimization and ad targeting technology. They offer publishers compensation via arbitrage.

Finally comes the Targeted Network or "next generation" or "2.0" ad network. The targeted network focuses on specific targeting technologies to build lists of targeted traffic via consumer click stream data. This directs them in choosing the advertising inventory they buy.

You can find and apply or sign up with online ad networks by doing an Internet search. There is quite a large number of these networks to be found, so if you can find websites that summarize and review many of them in one place you'll find that very helpful. Fastclick, Burst Media, Tribal Fusion, AdDynamix / Pennyweb Networks, Blue Lithium, ContextAd, and Premium Network are just a few of the big names in quality ad networks.

So the more traffic you get to your websites, by constantly updating them and adding new, interesting content, the more ad networks you'll be able to do business with and the more advertising revenues you can generate.

Getting advertising at your websites can turn them into huge cash cows. You will eventually be able to make money in your sleep and maybe reach the point where you can fire your boss and be a full-time Internet entrepreneur.
